Immobilisation - basic principles and techniques
Trainer: dr hab. Radosław Stachowiak
About training
The course "Immobilisation - basic principles and techniques" was created to introduce to the subject of immobilisation of biocatalysts - enzymes and cells. The training is intended for people who plan to start or have already tried immobilisation, or are simply interested in this branch of biotechnology. The course contains basic theoretical information and presents the most popular techniques used for immobilisation, with particular emphasis on the advantages and limitations of each of the presented methods. The program was prepared based on theoretical knowledge and the instructor's own experience.
In 45 minutes, participants will have the opportunity to learn the most popular immobilization techniques, which will allow them to consciously and effectively apply the acquired knowledge in practice.
The training ends with an exam - after solving it, a certificate will be automatically generated confirming the completion of the training.
Training level - basic.
The VOD form allows you to replay the training at any time (within 6 months from the date of purchase), as well as to return to the course content multiple times.
Training program
Discussion of the definition and origins of immobilisation and the advantages of this technique.
Review of carriers used for immobilisation.
Presentation of immobilisation methods along with a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each of them.
Demonstration of the immobilisation process using alginate gel as an example.
Summary, discussion of the relationship between protein preparation and purification and immobilisation itself.
Who is the training aimed at?
Students of biotechnology, chemistry and related fields who want to expand their knowledge.
Scientists and engineers working in research and industrial laboratories who want to start working with immobilization techniques.
Employees of the biotechnology industry who want to increase the efficiency of their production processes through the use of immobilization.
Anyone who is interested in gaining knowledge about modern techniques used in biotechnology.
Dr. Radosław Stachowiak is a teacher and researcher employed at the Institute of Microbiology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw. His master's, doctoral and tenure theses cover general and molecular microbiology, biology of pathogenic bacteria and biotechnology. Instructor’s teaching activities are focused on teaching industrial microbiology and biotechnology. The speaker is a co-author of over 30 scientific publications and several patents. Among both publications and patents, there are examples of applications of immobilisation in biotechnology.
